Life Update & Current Favourites

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to apologise again for being a bit absent on the blog. I have had quite a few things going on lately so I thought I would share those with you.

ESA Appeal and PIP Assessment

Due to being ill a lot and having a condition that fluctuates, I have been finding it difficult to find a job that I can actually do. So I applied for something called ESA (Employment and Support Allowance) which is designed to help people that can't work or that can't have a full time job due to illness or disability. I had an assessment earlier this year and it wasn't successful, however I had an appeal tribunal a few weeks ago and they agreed that I should be entitled to it!
PIP (Personal Independence Payment) is another allowance that people can apply for if they need help with daily living due to illness, and it can be used to help fund things such as mobility aids, adaptations for the home or things such as extra treatments that are not covered by the NHS. I had my assessment last week, so I am now just waiting to hear their decision.

Graduation

For the past 5 years I have been doing my degree. I should have graduated last year but because of illness I failed some of my modules and had to resit those this year. Thankfully I have passed them this time and will be graduating with a BA (Hons) in French and Religious Studies. I will be graduating with a 2:2 , I was hoping to get a 2:1 but considering the fact that I failed a good portion of my final year I'm pretty happy with the overall result. My ceremony is in a couple of weeks so I will definitely post about that!

Blog Changes

Some of you may have noticed already but I have been having a little rearrange of things on my blog with a new theme and new widgets. Aside from that I will be having a little change to my blogging schedule, I will now aim to post every Tuesday/Wednesday instead of Thursday and be more consistent with the weekly posting.

And now onto some of my current and recent favourites...

I've had 'A Work In Progress' for a while now but had never got round to reading it. Since I have a bit more time at the minute, I thought I should try to read a few of the unread books I have in my collection. I'm about a 3rd of the way through the book now and I really like it! (I normally read quite quickly, like if I sat down to read this I could be done within an hour or two, so I try to only read a certain amount at a time so that I can read it for a bit longer)  It is essentially just an autobiography book where Connor documents his life so far, but I feel like the way he writes it is quite different to other autobiographical things I've read.

'Carry On' is the sort of sequel to a book I already own, 'Fangirl'. Fangirl looks at the story of a young girl who writes fanfiction of a couple in a fantasy world and then Carry On actually takes place in the said fantasy world. I haven't read either of the books yet, but now that I have them both I am interested to read them as I have heard great things about them both.

Everytime I am in Wilkinsons, I tend to gravitate towards the Essence stand as I love their products a lot, especially their lip product range. I had seen these Velvet Stick Matt Lip Colour pens on their website as they are in the collection of new things added recently, so I was excited to see that they are in stores now. I picked up a pinky-nude which is called Peony Star and a red called Cherry Crash. These are actually semi-matte rather than full on matte so they're a bit easier to apply and are definitely not drying or cakey and they're also sharpenable!

I have had a denim skirt in my wardrobe since I was around 16 but never seemed to wear it, I always thought it was a bit too short. When I was in Primark a few weeks ago I decided to get another one that I would actually wear. I picked this one and I absolutely love it and have worn it so many times since. The fit is really nice which I enjoy as I have been finding jeans uncomfortable to wear, but this waistband doesn't dig in. I went for a more a-line shape and a lighter denim, but they also had some different lengths, shapes and shades of denim. It was only £10 which I think is pretty cheap and well worth it when I'll be wearing it a lot this summer.

Stromae is a Belgian singer that I absolutely love. I'm not really sure how to explain his genre, I guess you could call it dance-y electro music or hip hop, but I think he's pretty unique. I've not been able to see him live unfortunately but I hope that will change in the future. One of his concerts in Montréal was filmed then put out on DVD and I rewatched it last weekend and remembered why I love his music. He does sing in French for the most part but I'd really recommend him even if you don't speak French as most of his videos are subtitled in English.
The concert footage on the DVD is also available to watch in HD on his Youtube which is really cool!!
(The DVD has an awesome book too with lots of backstage tour photos which is why I wanted a physical copy :P )

(Just as a PSA for the video, I'd like to warn you guys that there are lots of flashing/strobe lights used throughout the performance)

I hope you've enjoyed this little update post, thanks for reading!

  3. I really liked Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Carry On was okay, but I preferred Fangirl because of the setting.
