My Favourite Dancers

One of my big passions in life is dance, be it watching someone else dance, teaching others to dance or simply improving my own dance ability and knowledge.

Over the years of my interest in dance, I have grown fond of many dancers and dance couples, so I thought I would share those with you :)

 Michael Malitowski and Joanna Leunis

Michael and Joanna competed for England for many years and won a great number of titles, maybe most notably being the UK Professional Open Latin champions for 9 consecutive years.
I love their relationship together and although they may not be deemed as sticking to tradition I find their showdance approach to Latin fascinating and I love seeing their new and creative routines.
Fortunately, I was able to see them perform live last year, as they were the demonstration couple for the Inter Varsity Dance Competition that I was part of. They were very very good and me and my friend got a little bit emotional that we were able to see them.
They retired from competing last year but are still continuing to dance and teach together.
Aside from their professional partnership, I also like to see that they share some aspects of their personal lives with fans, especially this year when Joanna announced that she is currently pregnant!! I'm so happy for them and can't wait to see what the future brings for them.

These are two of my favourite dances they have done.

Neil Jones & Ekaterina Sokolova

I first came across this couple over four years ago when they performed as the demonstration at one of my university competitions. They have a really interesting way of incorporating creative storytelling and themes into routines that have a lot of standard or traditional Latin steps. When I first saw them they were still competing for England as an amateur couple, but now they are up there competing as professionals. Some people may recognise them as part of a dance troupe that appeared on Britain's Got Talent, Neil is also now part of the choreography team for Strictly Come Dancing and has occasionally appeared in some of their group dances with the other strictly pros.

These are videos showing their BGT act, their amateur dances and one of my favourite dances of theirs.

Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe

Ah Ian and Natalie, where to begin. Although they haven't competed together as such, Ian and Natalie have done many shows together and were often partnered together on Strictly. I love them both separately so when they dance together it's no surprise that it's something I enjoy.
Natalie is still one of the Strictly pros and despite not dancing as a pro for several years Ian is very much still part of the Strictly family and makes regular appearances on the weekday dose of Strictly 'It Takes Two' and sometimes dances in the Christmas special. Luckily, I received tickets to see their show in April from my parents at Christmas, so I will be both seeing their show and getting to meet them!! So I am very excited.

It just so happens that the Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite films, so to see them dancing to the title song is quite magical.

Anton du Beke and Erin Boag

Above all, I think I have to say that Anton is probably my favourite Strictly pro. I just think he is hilarious and kind and a very accomplished dancer. So when he is paired with Erin, I think they are just fantastic, they are so complementary to each other and I am always a fan of their dances. A lot of my other favourite couples are quite heavily or solely Latin focussed, so I think it's nice to also have some Ballroom-centric faves. Erin hasn't danced as a pro for a couple of years due to taking time out to be with her adorable baby, but hopefully we'll see her dancing again soon.

I also really love Erin's dress here!

Riccardo Cocchi and Yulia Zagoruychenko

Riccardo and Yulia compete for the USA and are currently the Worlds No.1 couple in Professional Latin and the reigning UK Open Professional Latin Champions. I love their partnership and think they are very well suited to each other when they dance. I love their energy and the thought they put into routines. I'm also a great admirer of Yulia's lovely hairstyles.

Since Ballroom and Latin is my main domain personally, I have stuck to choosing favourites from my own world of dance. I do however have some other favourites from different styles of dance such as Chloe Lukasiak, Darcey Bussell and Wayne Sleep.

Thanks for reading!!

Let me know your favourites too or your opinions on my favourites if they differ :P

also, if you are interested I have a dance playlist on my 8tracks here
